Chethru Mahto Janta Mahavidyalaya (C.M.J. College) was established in June 1969 at Donwarihat, situated on the Indo-Nepal border, serving both Indian and Nepalese communities. Initially affiliated with Bihar University, Muzaffarpur for Intermediate in Arts in 1970, the college later gained affiliation for B.A. (Pass) Standard under Lalit Narayan Mithila University (L.N.M.U.), Darbhanga, in 1978, effective from June 1, 1977. By 1980, it became a constituent unit of L.N. Mithila University. Over the years, the college has established itself as a major academic institution, producing numerous civil servants, defense personnel, and academicians.
Today, C.M.J. College offers both Plus Two (intermediate) and three-year degree programs in Arts, Science, and Commerce. The syllabus for Plus Two is set by the Bihar Senior Secondary Examination Board, Patna, while the degree courses follow the curriculum of L.N. Mithila University.

- In addition to core subjects, degree students must opt for language papers like Hindi, Maithili, Urdu, or Sanskrit.
